Fence calculator
Before you order posts and timber, you want to know exactly how much you need. Give the length and your c/c spacing, and you get the post and section count straight away – a figure to take to the builders’ merchant.
Fence calculator – posts and sections
Enter the fence length and the spacing between posts (c/c) and we work out the number of posts and sections.
An estimate (number of posts = sections + 1). Count a gate separately, and adapt the c/c to the fence type and wind load.
This tool gives an estimate and is an aid – not a finished calculation. Always check the result against drawings, applicable regulations, supplier data and your professional experience before giving a binding price, ordering material or using the file. How to work out the fence
- Measure the fence length in metres.
- Enter the spacing between posts (c/c).
- See the number of posts and sections.
Think about stability
A shorter post spacing gives a sturdier fence, especially for tall panels or windy spots. Dig in or concrete the posts properly.
